My Peace I Leave with You

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled. John 14:27

I often think of peace as the effect of calm surroundings giving rest to my soul but that is not real peace. For this I am thankful because that "peace" is delicate and so easily taken away.

True peace is a gift given to us by the Holy spirit. Its power and effectiveness in our life is not dependant on our surroundings. The world offers us trouble and fear constantly but its our choice to hold on to those or Jesus' peace. We can't hold both in the same hand. As peace is a gift, it's only useful when it's received.

Peace can't be earned. We can't create it by our choices or our lifestyle. But it is always available and can always be returned to. Its more than we can fathom.

And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:7
